@WAR - Theft From Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Advice

NHW SA - Theft From Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Advice

Police are urging car owners to ensure that when they leave their vehicles they are locked and secured.

Ways to protect the property in your vehicle include:
* Removing everything from the car such as Sat Navs, mobile phones, don't even leave a jacket where it can be seen.

* Park in a well lit area if possible and ensure windows are closed when you leave.

* Not storing things in the boot; take them with you.

* Storing car ownership information in your home, not your car.

* Having a routine to ensure you always take the keys out of the ignition.

* Taking removable stereos and sat nav equipment with you.

* In addition, using secure (theft resistant) number plates can make your plates less attractive to thieves.
* LOCK THE VEHICLE when leaving it unattended.

Theft resistant number plate screws are available free of charge from Stratford Police Station.
'No Tools or Valuables Left in This Vehicle' stickers are also available free of charge from Stratford Police Station.

End of the UK paper driving licence: all you need to know

Counterpart driving licence

The UK paper counterpart driving licence is to be abolished from 8 June 2015. Here's what you need to know about the driving licence changes

From June 8 2015, the UK paper counterpart driving licence will be scrapped and no longer issued by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
The green section of paper required mainly for hiring cars will no longer be valid and when you renew or change your address on your licence, the DVLA will only send a new photocard.
It's part of a major "red tape" removal policy by Government motoring agencies with many facets moving online, saving an estimated £8 million. MyLicence - a joint venture between the DVLA and the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) - has been launched where drivers can check their details online.

Christmas shopping! In fact shopping all year round!
Each Christmas police forces up and down the country will issue seasonal crime prevention messages about the risks associated with shopping in very busy places. They do it for 'good reason in the season,' because the High Streets are rammed and the opportunities for pickpocketing and snatch theft are at their highest. I know what you're thinking....isn't there anything he can't write an advice list about? No! When I was in the police, each year I'd find myself on duty in London's West End helping the local police keep the shoppers safe and it was a nightmare. Read more here

'Funny' things told to a Crime Prevention Officer
Back in the day when the Metropolitan police operated an articulated crime prevention display lorry, I would book the thing for a few days during the Ealing festival or maybe for a Neighbourhood Watch event and invite people to come on board to view the various displays and ask their crime prevention questions. Sometimes the questions and stories were quite funny and here's a selection I collected over the years.....and they're all true! Read more here

The new anti-social behaviour rules explained: Part 9 Community Remedy
In the ninth part of our series, we will look at the Community Remedy which provides an opportunity for victims to have a say in the out-of-court punishment of perpetrators for low level crime and anti-social behaviour. The Community Remedy document, to be published by the Police and Crime Commissioner, will set out the actions that will be used. They will include a punitive, restorative and rehabilitative element. It will be used when a perpetrator admits to the offence or to the count of anti-social behaviour and the officer believes that, whilst the evidence is sufficient for court proceedings such as a Civil Injunction or to impose a caution, a Community Remedy would be more appropriate. "Closure of police counters reflects changing world"
There have been 27 closures of police counters across the West Midlands following a year-long analysis which showed that there was little public demand for them. Memorial plaque thief has been jailed
A 72 year-old man, Joseph Collier, has been jailed for stealing scrap metal from cemeteries around the south-east London area. Police raided Collier's Scrap Metal Yard in Croydon in May 2012 after a tip-off from Croydon Trading Standards officers. They found several bags and boxes containing hundreds of memorial plaques that had been stolen and cut up.
