@WAR - Delivery fee/UKash scam from Trading Standards

05/03/15 – Courier Scam Alert

By Rebecca Francis on Mar 05, 2015 10:13 am
Residents are warned to be aware of a courier scam after a Warwickshire householder reported being a victim.
The scam involves an advertised item on a local freecycle or equivalent website. After the consumer agrees to have the item they are told it is at a different location and will need to be delivered for a small fee (typically around £35). Often other costs are also added such as Insurance.
They then ask for the fees to be paid by a money order (for example Ukash, Western Union, Moneygram).
The goods don’t exist and the scammer walks away having cashed in the money order.
