@WAR - Police Launch Emergency Contact Disc As Alternative to Tax Disc

Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police are pleased to announce the launch of our tax disc replacement, the Emergency Contact Disc. DOWNLOAD DISC (Ready printed copies will soon be available from Neighbourhood Watch coordinators in Stratford District)

The Emergency Contact Disc contains next of kin contact details and medical alert information for the driver. In the event of a medical emergency or road traffic collision that renders the occupants unable to communicate, a first responder will be able to obtain vital information that is not otherwise accessible at the scene.

The disc can be cut out and placed into the now otherwise redundant tax disc holder, the information sections fold inwards so it would not be viewed by passers by.

PC Dave Wise, the West Mercia officer behind the idea said;” The information within the disc could be vital to save lives or quickly locate a casualty's next of kin, something that can be time consuming at the scene of a serious incident"

“All information is optional and the blank discs can be used to add customised information, or attach a passport photo to help link the information to the right person. If there is more than one regular driver or even regular passengers, consider printing multiple discs and add a photo or description of each person. The Emergency Contact Disc can be used alongside existing medical alert products like bracelets and necklaces.”

PC Wise added "If people have concerns about security of information, they can omit certain details. We would advise that if the next of kin address is the same as the driver's address, it may be sensible to leave this portion blank"

"The information within the disc would give little or no information away that could aid potential criminals and any slight risk is far outweighed by the benefits".

@WAR - New funding to Tackle Rural Crime

8th August 2014

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Warwickshire has welcomed news of nearly £40,000 investment to help establish a new online network to tackle rural crime in England and Wales.

The Home Office announced an investment of £39,200 this week to establish the National Rural Crime Network (NRCN) which aims to act as a collaborative think tank, researching and implementing ways to reduce rural crime.

The money for the project was awarded from the Home Office's Police Innovation Fund - a £50 million fund for projects that encourage collaboration between emergency services and communities.

New website to help close the gate on rural crime

A new online resource offering crime prevention advice and information for people living and working in rural communities has been made available thanks to Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner funding.

Tackling rural crime has been recognised as a priority for Warwickshire PCC Ron Ball and the commissioner has provided funds to Warwickshire County Council Community Safety Project Officers to develop an initiative to address the issue.

Carol Cotterill has been commissioned as Warwickshire Coordinator for Crime in Rural Communities to use her knowledge and skills gathered from the national award winning Warwickshire Horse Watch to set up a new countywide Rural Watch website as phase one of this crime reduction mission.
