19/03/2015 Bogus ‘British Gas’ callers warning to businesses
By Simon Cripwell on Mar 19, 2015 12:52 pm
Warwickshire businesses are warned to beware of bogus calls from fraudsters falsely claiming to represent British Gas.
The
fraudsters often claim to be the electricity suppliers of the business
being called (in the hope that they have phoned a business that is
supplied by British Gas) and then ask for confidential information. They
may refer to themselves as 'British Gas Renewals' and use false names
and false UK addresses. For example, one caller claimed to be located on
'10 Street Manchester!' The calls appear to actually come from foreign
call centres.
NEVER
provide personal, financial or confidential information to a cold
caller or agree to a contract or service. British Gas have confirmed
that the callers are not affiliated to them.

19/03/2015 ‘Cut and shut’ stairlift leads to prosecutions
By Simon Cripwell on Mar 19, 2015 12:31 pm
A
company that claimed to sell new Stannah stair lifts to elderly
Warwickshire residents actually sold them lifts which were made up of
second hand parts, and in some cases were unsafe. Warwickshire County
Council’s Trading Standards Service brought the successful prosecution after receiving complaints from Warwickshire consumers.

@WAR - Highway Robbery, it's happening today!
Motorway bandits con Good Samaritans
- By Arthur Martin
GANGS of Eastern Europeans are ambushing motorists on motorways and conning money out of them.
The fraudsters, wearing suits and appearing distressed, flag down their victims and claim to have run out of fuel and cash.
Sometimes they claim a relative has died and they desperately need money to get home quickly. The conmen even offer gold rings as surety – but these are worthless fakes.
This practice is not confined to motorways. A local
resident has reported such an incident that occurred to him en- route to Morton
Morrell but fortunately he was not taken in.
The advice is to ignore attempts to wave you down and report the incident to the police 101 as soon as possible.

Stratford Police Station's front
counter service will remain open while the station undergoes some alterations
during March and April 2015.
Whilst the refurbishment takes place
the current front counter will be closed and in its place will be a separate
portacabin building where the front counter staff will be housed.
This will not impact upon the level
of service which is currently provided.
The staff will move out from
approximately Monday 9 March, for a period of 6 weeks. The portacabin will be
located around the side of the building, and signage will be placed to direct
members of the public wishing to visit the temporary front counter facility.
