27/02/2017 Car clamper warning Leamington Spa 27-02-2017 02:12 PM GMT Warwickshire Trading Standards Service has become aware that a trader may be clamping vehicles on private land in Leamington Spa. Vehicle owners are advised that it is a criminal offence for anyone to clamp a vehicle on private land if they do not have lawful authority. Lawful authority to immobilise or move a vehicle is restricted to organisations such as the police, DVLA and local authorities. Further, clamping of a vehicle on a public highway can only be done by public bodies. If you believe your vehicle has been clamped unlawfully, please contact Warwickshire Trading Standards via the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03454 040506 for advice. If it is safe to do so, vehicle owners may wish to consider taking photographs of the clamp in situ and any parking restriction signs etc. If a vehicle owner feels threatened, they should call the Police.
