@SOU - Compton Chronicle copy for November 2016

FENNY COMPTON NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

Outbuildings - Your garage or garden shed may contain valuable equipment but many outbuildings are easy pickings for an opportunist thief. Link for advice http://bit.do/shedsecure
Poaching and Rural Crime - Poaching can lead to a number of animal welfare issues, serious loss of income from illegal taking of game and fish and the damage which many poachers do to crops and land. Poachers are usually involved with many other rural crimes from theft of dogs and livestock to burglary. There's now an app, Project Poacher, for that. See projectpoacher.com or search your app store.
Car Thefts On The Rise - Vehicle thefts are on the rise for the first time in years yet 40% of motorists gladly hand over the keys to their car to people they do not know. Car owners do not appear to think twice about leaving their valuable vehicle with a stranger, with few bothering to check whether the valet company or car washing team, for example, is a member of an accredited body. Friends against Scams - A new campaign has been launched to raise awareness of scams and encourage people to take a stand against them. Scams often target people in vulnerable situations – the Friends Against Scams campaign aims to protect and prevent these people from becoming victims of scams by empowering communities to ‘Take a Stand Against Scams’.
